New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc.

October 3, 2005

We had wonderful weather, until the last of us left, and then had a huge thunderstorm.  But while we were together, the weather was perfect.  I credit our dogs at the bridge for watching over us, and keeping us dry. I loved getting to meet so many people.  We had people from IL, WI, MO and MI.  The farthest traveler was Holly from Traverse City, MI - 600 miles!

When I get through the pile of paper on my desk, and have a moment to breath, I will sit down and write more. Thanks to everyone who made this possible  Oh, BTW, we'll be doing this again 10/1/06!!! Deborah (who is wearing red in the picture holding "baby" Keira), Pirate (gosh mama, it was sooooooooo fun!) and Keira (I can't believe no one brought a ball!!!!!)    Deborah

In attendence we had:
37 uprights
22 sheepdogs
2 non sheepdogs
3 stuffed sheepdogs

Welcome to the count down to SheepieFest! October 2, 2005.  Our cute little guy above (with the sheepie antenna) is our official logo.  He was donated to our group by artist and very great lady, Michelina.  She has become a friend of SheepieFest!, even though, she lives out East. AND!  She’s promised she will come out for next year’s event.  To see more of her work, go to www.sheepiedreams.com

I have ordered sheepie treat canvas bags from Michelina, with our (oh, I love that it’s ours!) logo on it.  They are 6x9 and just adorable. We are selling them for $15.00 each.>  That includes taxes and shipping.  If you would like one you can send a check made out to me, as I’ve fronted the money.   Now for the very cool part.  Any and all profits will be donated to OES rescue. There will only be a limited number available, and they must be purchased before SheepieFest!. The reason is that, we will celebrating sheepdogs in a forest preserve and absolutely no money transaction can take place there.  If you want one, please mail your check to:

Please state how many you’d like, and if you’d like me to mail them to you, or if you will pick them up at SheepieFest!.

They are a one of kind art work, and just plain cute!

I’ve also been contacted by Shawn and Laura Ehrke of the Barrington Barkery.  It’s a delightful doggie boutique in Barrington, IL.  They have generously offered to supply us with some delicious doggie cookies for our event.  Huge thank you goes out to Shawn and Laura.  I had the pleasure of talking with Shawn on the phone, and not only is he a terrific guy, he’s a dog lover..and you know, that means so much.  Please visit their website at www.barringtonbarkery.com.

They have also offered us their store (which has a park like area) if we decided we’d like to do a Holiday Party.  Hmmmm….something to think about!

Karen from Michigan wrote me to tell me she’s found another sheepdog friendly hotel, right here in Gurnee.  The room rate is $74.00 per night.

Although I’ve never been in there, I drive by it often and it looks really nice.  So, there’s another option for you.

If you are coming from out of state, and coming in early, please let me know, and we can set up a dinner for Saturday night.  I have heard, we are having people from WI, IN, MI, MO and even Canada!>  How cool is that?

Some of you have asked if you can contribute $$$ towards SheepieFest!.  The answer is, no!  Remember, “it’s all about the sheepies!”  So, if you’d like to bring something for the goodies bags we’re making, or a prize for one of the silly contests, that would be terrific.  Or…if you’d like to make a donation to OES rescue in the name of SheepieFest!, well, that sure would make me proud!  For their info go to www.neoesr.org

Remember the food is bring your own.  And please bring something to share.  Whether it be chips, desserts, soda, ice, tiramisu (ha ha) or whatever!  This is “our” party.  This is “our” celebration.  Also, there are grills there, so if you’d like to bring charcoal and lighter fluid it will be needed. Kathy and I will pick up some hot dogs (excuse the expression) and hamburgers to grill.  We will need some ketchup, sliced onions, tomatoes, etc.  Oh yes, some potato salad and cole slaw.

I will be out at the forest preserve by 9 am. So remember we are in Shelter D.  My red Ford Escape (with lots of Key West stuff on the back) will be there.  And we will stay as long as we want!  As they say in Key West…what’s the hurry, you’re here!

I’d like to extend a very special, warm, sincere thank you to Kathi McBride and darling Auntie Paula for all of their support and encouragement.  Ladies, I never could have done this without you!  Drinks are on me Saturday!

I’m sure other stuff will come up between now and October 2nd, and that I will be sending out another letter.

Remember, get your checks in for our darling SheepieFest! Treat bags.>  You’ll love them!

As always, feel free to contact me via email or phone.  Just remember, Tony and I go to bed really early!  No calls after 8pm cst please!

Pirate and Keira send their love to all of you.  And Keira is especially proud that even though she’s not a sheepie, she’s is being made welcome!

As always, yours in sheepie friendship.

Deborah
